If you own a remote cottage, then you’re probably familiar with one of its biggest downsides: the cost of diesel fuel. Not only is it expensive, but diesel fuel releases harmful emissions that damage the environment. Have you considered switching to solar power?
With an off-grid solar system package in Canada, you’ll enjoy a new sense of freedom, both for your lifestyle and your wallet. Use off-grid solar panel systems to generate electricity for your cabin, tiny home, or RV. At SRB Energy, we offer a range of complete kits that make it easy to get started with solar in Canada.

Why Choose Off-Grid Solar?

An off-grid solar system has a few distinct advantages over diesel fuel. When you’re completely independent from the grid, you canOff-grid canada appreciate several benefits, which include:

No more monthly utility bills!

Tired of paying exorbitant costs for fuel? Switch to solar and start saving money each month. Once you purchase the required equipment and pay for installation, the solar energy you generate from the sun will be free. With all the money you’ll save, a solar kit becomes a lot more affordable.

Less reliance on diesel fuel

Using diesel fuel is expensive. If you spend a lot of time at your cottage, relying on diesel fuel 24/7 is no small cost. With solar panels, you can generate electricity from a natural and abundant resource in Canada: sunlight!

The installation costs for a solar system may be higher upfront, but you’ll enjoy a return on your investment as the years go by.

Increase property value

If you decide to eventually sell your cottage, an off-grid solar system will factor into the value of it. Potential buyers will surely be enticed by the idea of free solar power.

What You Need

Ready to set up an off-grid solar system at your cottage? Here’s an overview of all the parts you’ll need to generate solar power off the grid:

Solar panels

Obviously, one of the main components will be the PV (or photovoltaic) panels. Our off-grid solar kits come with monocrystalline panels, which are more efficient than polycrystalline.

Inverters

Inverters are an essential part of any off grid system. An inverter takes the DC (direct current) that’s generated from your solar panels, and converts it into AC (alternating current) that’s used by home appliances.

Mounting systems

Whether you want to place your PV panels on your roof, the ground, or on top of a pole, you need mounts and racking systems. These devices secure your panels to the location of your choosing. They ensure that strong wind gusts won’t dislodge your solar modules from their optimal position.

Batteries

Every off-grid system needs a battery bank. This is the power source you draw from when the sun isn’t shining. Any excess energy that your solar panels produce is stored in the batteries for later use, like at nighttime or on cloudy days.

To maximize the lifespan and efficiency of your battery, store it in conditions between -10°C to 20°C. During the winter, we suggest storing your battery bank in an insulated or heated shelter.

Charge controllers

Once you’ve set up a battery system, the next step is modulating it with a charge controller. This device regulates how much energy flows into the battery from your solar panels. It prevents the batteries from overcharging.

Backup generator

It may give you some peace of mind to have a backup power source. These are great on days when weather conditions aren’t optimal for solar energy generation. If your solar array doesn’t produce enough power for your home or cottage, you can hook up a backup generator to supplement your electrical needs.
